In 2010 our friend Andrew Nguyen of Lemongrass Films produced the film “Mothers of Kigeme” which focused on the Healthy Mums Project.
“Mothers of Kigeme”, is a short film about the Healthy Mum’s Project. It explores the lives of three women in a town called Kigeme in the country of Rwanda; and a community nurse that seeks to improve their lives by teaching women how to improve their health while they are pregnant. As they struggle against poverty, the mothers participating in the project discover new skills within themselves, and a new hope emerges as they begin to support one another.
In 2014 due to the enormous growth of our programs and the spread to many other areas of Rwanda, Andrew returned to capture the expanded scope of Embrace Rwanda. The moving account can be seen in the film “My Time to Rise”.
Through personal stories of people whose lives have been changed through their connection to Embrace Rwanda, “My Time to Rise” shows the evolution from the project’s beginnings. Today, Embrace Rwanda continues to inspire hope for a better future. Many community members who have been helped are now advocates, mentors and supporters themselves and the entire Embrace Rwanda community recognizes that this is special moment in time, where so many things are possible. This is their time to rise.

Blanket Project
In partnership with the Alouette Correctional Centre for Women, Maple Ridge, BC, the Blanket Project has enabled female offenders to reach out to the women in Kigeme, Rwanda.
Making the blankets has been a calming, peaceful activity for the inmates. More importantly, the inmates feel they are helping other women—poor women in Rwanda.
